They Came from California Fest: Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, & Tool Tributes

Friday, July 20, 2012
While Seattle, Washington is known as the "birthplace of grunge", Los Angeles, California gave rise to a new sound in rock that combined elements of metal, funk, rap and punk. This "alternative" form of rock was filled with heavy guitars, deep bass and passionate lyrics that had a message. Combine this with explosive stage shows, and you have the birthing of a musical culture that reached the hearts of the younger generation of the 90s who were looking for something more. The bands Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Tool, all from L.A., epitomize this aggressive blend of music and propelled its fresh sound from the underground club circuit to mainstream America in the early 90s. Showcase Live and Skyworks Productions have captured the spirit and essence of these legendary California bands by bringing together--in one night, under one roof--three of New England's hottest premier alternative rock tribute bands: AGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, SCAR TISSUE, and TOOLFIST!

Age Against The Machine is Boston's premier Rage tribute. In their own words, "We've been doin' this rock/rap thang for a while. Since 1984 to be exact! When Rage broke out in '92, were we angry? Hell yeah! Not 'cause they were so F'N good, but Zack sounded so much like Joey C. (Vocals). So we had to change our style a 'lil bit. Worked on many original projects, played many a gig and recorded many an album that went nowhere! So here we are 28 years later and it's come to this...Let's embrace this blessed curse and go out there and be the best Rage tribute. Four old bastards from Beantown slammin' to Rage dead-on. It's just that simple!"

Scar Tissue is THE New England tribute to one of the best bands of our time, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. There may be others out there, but this is the real Scar Tissue, the one that’s still funking you up and rocking you down like no one else! Frontman Eric channels the voice, presence, and energy of Anthony Keidis, like he’s his clone. He’s been mistaken for, compared to, and accused of being Keidis so many times over the last 20 years, that he finally decided to bring it to the stage and form the ultimate RHCP tribute band, Scar Tissue. Whitey, fresh off of a tour in Afghanistan, may be an officer in the Marines, but when he slaps that bass and funks around, you'd swear he is Flea!! Frusciante? Navarro? Hillel? Klinghoffer? With his sound and style, you’d think newly added guitarist Anthony was an original member of RHCP! His backing vocals have brought a dimension to Scar Tissue that has never been seen or heard before. Is that The Worm or Chad Smith on drums? You can’t tell, because there is no difference!! If you like getting funky and rocking out to one of the best bands in the world, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, you'll love this high-energy, live tribute show from Scar Tissue.

TOOLfist pays homage to one of the most prolific Progressive Metal bands: TOOL. They have dedicated themselves as students of Tool's music, and hope to do them justice in spreading the musical genius that is TOOL. TOOLfist is based out of Boston, with its members being comprised of dedicated and skilled musicians with many years of professional experience in recording and live performance. Dissecting and performing the music of TOOL has proven to be all at once challenging, humbling, and enlightening for the band. In the end, their audience is truly left in awe by the exceptional musicianship and creativity embodied by TOOL, as well as the sheer power of the music. It is Toolfist's only hope that their performances serve as a temporary fix until TOOL returns with their next album and tour.
